Fall quarter is over-WOOOO!
Though I initially thought it would kill me, the final week of the quarter has been conquered. I made it through twenty credits; I am unstuffable! I did write three papers in a matter of days on top of two jobs and full days of class-but, I must say that in the end (and in my evals!), it was worth it.
Our last day at Green Hill (the institution I work with through the Gateways program) we had a bomb talent show , a bomb potluck, a warm and fuzzy final college class. I am so glad that this is something I’ll be doing for the rest of the year, and that we’ll be continuing to work with the same guys (except for those that get out!). The last day we spent as the Evergreen part of Gateways was wonderful too; there were waffles(!) and thank yous(!) and appreciation(!) and pictures(!) and aw, I love my class so much. I’m glad we are sticking together for the whole year. Oh, and watch out for our Maple Lane vs. Green Hill Thriller Dance Off via Winter Prom 2009. More info to come.
Next quarter in Gateways we are going to be doing individual research projects, and I am really excited about this. I’m going to be looking at pregnancy in prison, and although this is a research project, I’m going to be working with a local doula collective, the Birth Attendants, and their Prison Doula project, as my main source of information. Hopefully, my research will be relevant to their direct work in the community and my final project can be utilized as a valuable community resource. I get their insight, they get my legwork; its a completely brilliant idea. I have plans to meet with the Birth Attendants program coordinator sometime through Winter break and I am so excited to talk about the things we can do!
So here I am, home in Minnesota, getting full nights of sleep, hanging with my grandmas and my dogs, trying to curb my caffiene addiction. My birthday is in less than six hours (!), the final few quarters of my college career approach after that..I seem to be finding lots to think about in terms of the Future and What I Want To Do With My Life. I’ve got time to explore this right now-and it is real exciting!
Check it: Gateways Fall 08. We’re so much fun. We love each other like woah.
