Nearing the end of week #7 I’m still working on the song entitled, “Hit the Road”. Part of my contract obligations are to explore the artistic & cultural mileu to which songs originate. This song started with four chords, Em, B, C & A. I thought they sounded good so I immediately jotted down lyrics. I thought of my 14 sister & how she was tired of our mom’s relationship with her long time boyfriend. The music has an edge so I sang, “she told you that it’s over”. Everything I wrote was based off that one line. The song ends up being about a guy that won’t leave a girl alone after she tells him it’s over. The new boyfriend tells him to hit the road because she’ll never be with him again after the way he treated her. My sister’s attitude created the framework for this song.

Posted by: simtyl29 | November 10, 2009 | 1 Comment |I’ve recorded the rough version of a new song entitled “Hit The Road”. Last weekend in studio 110 my drummer & I plus an engineer friend laid it down. The drums were recorded with scratch tracks from vocals, bass & electric guitar. After this guitar was overdubbed as well as vocals. The bass was kept for reference but I believe I’ll rerecord it in the mix bench. I’m satisfied with the way it’s sounding I certainly have editing to do. I’ll keep my progress updated as the song sounds better. This is my first original recorded with electric guitar as oppose to acoustic it should be interesting.
Week #5
Posted by: simtyl29 | October 29, 2009 | No Comment |I’ve been editing a lot this last week on a harmonica track for the final mix of the song “Eros”. Mix bench #1 & I’ve spent many late hrs. The song sounds great I’m happy with it. I’ve got good isolation of instruments, good sound quality & musicianship by the drummer, bass, & harmonica player. I enjoy seeing songs come to life, especially when I’ve composed them. I’m interested for future listening to add piano/synthesizer as well, maybe some shakers. The experience is unparellel learning how different instruments affect the overall sound of the mix. Protools #8 is great for recording, editing & monitoring, there’s a lot to learn too. I could spend a whole class just studying that software program.

I’m exploring musical composition, sound acoustics, microphone selection & placement, as well as other aspects associated with becoming an audio craftsman. As I stated in my last passage I’m recording & editing two original 8 bed track mixes. Currently I’m overdubbing & still mixing the song entitled “Eros”. I’d like to take a brief moment & explore the cultural & artistic milieu to which this song originated. I wrote the lyrics & composed the music for the song simultaneously. I found the guitar @ the beginning to be quite interesting & I created a verse & chorus all based off of that. Once the music was written I just started singing what words generated from me playing the guitar. I write lyrics a lot this way it gives me a subconcious gateway my thoughts as well as generate a message for others to hear. The song is about the nature of change & how people rearrange their attitudes based on experiences. The song is about losing but also growing stronger from experience, as well as coming out on top. The song is about being surround by external influences & looking inside yourself to decide which direction to go. Life force, or “Eros” is inside of all of us.

This word stands for “Life Force”. One take is an acoustic rendition & the other electric. I’ve had help engineering & producing drums & bass. I play guitar & sing vocals. I’ve spent time mixing the acoustic version but there is still work to do. I’ll being keeping everyone posted who is interested.
