Often seen walking backwards around campus, Student Ambassadors are vital members of the Admissions Office and critical to the success of new student recruitment and outreach.

Whether they are guiding a campus tour, hosting a student (for lunch, dinner, class or overnight visit), or tele-counseling in the evenings, ambassadors strive to provide an accurate and genuine perspective about college life here at Evergreen.

Sovay Hansen, one of our 17 student ambassadors, understands the importance of this work by “connecting on an individual basis and supporting a students understanding of the college… offering verbal and emotional support… and making them feel comfortable and inspired.” She also understands that student ambassadors may also “act as role models” for current Evergreen students. This stemming from their understanding of the importance of being a representative of the college to both new and current students, and that their job extends beyond providing campus tours and phone calls. Explaining how Evergreen works, encouraging students with their college search, and inspiring current students in representing our community; all of this helps to define the role of an ambassador.

Sovay excitedly expressed her enthusiasm for the Student Affairs division and the collection of staff here to support students in all aspects of their experience on campus, both academically and personally. She is thrilled to be part of this collective effort towards engaging students on campus.

The campus visit is a critical factor in a very important decision for prospective students and their families. The time, effort and knowledge that our student ambassadors share with our visitors help them to not only feel welcome, but also to perhaps picture themselves here for the next two or four years, respectively.
