Well, it’s 2013 and I’m already up to my ears in production work. I left off in December in the pre production stage for our full scale multimedia production set to air in March. Look out for GUWE News, a comedic/satirical news program written and produced by the Electronic Media interns. In addition, we’re about to start tracking for the Evergreen Student Music Project. I have to oversee the whole process and meet deadlines to give me time to master the album before we send it off to be duplicated in April. For now, I’m off to test the ADCs in the 16 track studio.

The time has come! I’m tying up some loose ends and taking care of some last minute business before my trip to San Francisco for the AES convention on Wednesday. So far it looks like I will be attending a private 4 hour tour of API’s studios with the Vision boards, as well as checking out Buchla and maaaybe Skywalker Sound (plus the convention itself!). I’m bringing my camera so I can share my visual experience. Can’t wait!

Tonight I’ll be hauling gear and setting up for tomorrow’s Debate on Marriage Equality, which will be held in the Longhouse here at The Evergreen State College. I will be running the house sound system for this is a very important debate, which is from 7PM to 9PM Friday October 19th. A little about the event:

Debating the Issue

Maggie Gallagher, Co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage and co-author (with John Corvino) of Debating Same-Sex Marriage

Andrew Koppelman, John Paul Stevens Professor of Law, Northwestern University

About the Series

This debate is sponsored with support from The Cal Anderson Memorial Lecture Series, a forum to capture the spirit of reasoned discussion of public policies and ideas that marked Cal Anderson’s career in the Washington State House of Representatives and Senate. By establishing a permanent lecture series in his memory, The Evergreen State College seeks to encourage open-minded, responsible examination of issues that are important to us all. The lecture series is funded from an endowment held by The Evergreen State College Foundation.

We held our first meeting for the ESMP today! The Evergreen Student Music Project is an annual project that has been in place for over 20 years. As the Audio Intern for Electronic Media, I’m responsible for overseeing the entire production process. We take submissions from students and the core ESMP group members vote on 24 of the submissions to be on the album. Each student in the advanced recording class then picks a song to engineer, contacts their artist, and records/mixes the track. After the mixes are finished, they are sent back to me and I master the album. Then it gets sent off to a duplication company and returns in time for the release show at the end of the year. Producing an album will be an amazing experience and I look forward to making it a memorable one. Stay tuned for Facebook/Twitter/Wordpress links! This will be an exciting year!

I will be going with my two supervisors and fellow intern from Electronic Media. This will be a great experience and I hope to get a lot out of it. It looks like I might be able to meet people from API, Buchla, and possibly go to Skywalker Sound. Now I need to decide what project I want to submit for the recording competition!

What a change of pace! Just started full time as the new audio intern for Electronic Media in Olympia. I’m excited to push myself in learning more about engineering, audio production, and video production. During my first two weeks I’ve already soldered and wired a brand new Toft analog mixing console, taught a couple workshops, and got the ball rolling on the Evergreen Student Music Project. I will be producing this year’s album, which is a very exciting opportunity. I’ll have a Facebook and Twitter account for the album soon, so keep an eye out. For now I’m off to do sweeps in the audio studios, then I’m co-teaching a workshop on shooting video with DSLRs.
