Tapping Maple Trees for Syrup in the Northwest!
This Winter Plant Ecology and Physiology will be trying out something new and we will be tapping trees in the Evergreen Forest Reserve for big-leaf maple sap, which can be uses to make maple syrup. It should be fun! We will learn about the physiological processes in these trees that makes this possible, and each student will be issued a split and bucket to install and monitor in a tree on campus. Two nice links for more information are below.
