Winter Commuting Event
Wednesday afternoon, February 15th, students and faculty came together to talk about our use of single occupancy vehicles and the need for alternative transportation. Alicia Crowley, the student alternative transportation coordinator and Susie Siep, parking director put together a large group event called the Winter Commuters event.
The event featured our faculty Stokley Towles, the maker of Trash Talk. His presentation, called “The Six Parts of Mobility” was creative, attention grabbing and charismatic.
The second speaker was Julia Field from Undriving. Undriving.org is an organization dedicated to shifting our perspective on mobility to undriving (you may have seen that coming). They have a great way of sharing awareness about using your personal vehicle less and sharing your transportation with nature and your community. Julia came prepared with an undrivers license station which was the main event. As we were waiting for pictures she went over our pledges of riding the bus more and thinking of more creative ways to travel.
The event had people thinking not only about our personal car use, but also the realization of our campus-wide concern about sustainability on a new level.
(Thanks to Alicia Crowley for this post.)
