Week 5! Oh lately it’s so quiet…

This week I spent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in the MML. On Monday, I spent 1:30-5:30 logging, capturing, and reviewing lots of footage. This included footage from week 3, week 4, and old family events with Ro. Tuesday I spent 1-5 burning some of my old films onto DVDs and looking at more old family footage of Ro. The tapes I have of random family footage taken from the past year are poorly labeled so it is taking some time to sort through them and find all the clips of Ro. I want to log and capture every piece of footage I have of baby Ro so I have the most options for clips for my final film. Wednesday I spent 3-5 watching the footage I’ve logged and trying to get a general picture of what I have and how I can make it into something linear. I started putting some clips down into the timeline and I think I have about the first 3 min edited. WOO

On Thursday at the affinity group meeting I showed clips of the raw footage I have at this point. Which was…

Ro getting off the ferry

My mom playing with Ro

And interviews with…

Some of my shots weren’t lit well enough (which I was aware of before) and a tip I was given was to try to have shots where the natural light is facing the person, not back-lighting them. I really don’t like to use unnatural light unless I really have to, but maybe I will consider using a key light next time. I also have discovered that I cannot completely trust the little LCD screen on the camera because the shot is always going to appear brighter than it actually is. I will probably do some color correction/brightness adjustment when I edit my footage. Another thing: if my subject talks with his/her hands, I need to frame accordingly.
