Tea and Terroir
For a deeper understanding, and really focusing on different flavor notes and aspects of tea, many other factors simply besides flavor have to be included. How the tea is processed, including the oxidation, steeping time, type of water, and temperature all play roles in affecting flavor. Many varieties of aromas may also come from the tea; sometimes a tea smells very different than it tastes.
-Some types of teas were very easy to detect specific flavor notes as well as how strong the tasting notes were. Flavors ranged from grassy and earthy tones when tasting the different teas Abir brought back from India. Even the differences between Madupatty Premium CTC and Chundavurrai Exoctia (which were both Munnar teas), were very easy to notice. The CTC had a much fruitier scent, but with an earthy and slightly bitter, lingering, brisk flavor. The Exoictia had a sweet grassy scent, but the flavor itself was very mild and almost watered down. Even though these teas were brewed with the same water, and steeped for the same required amounts of time, the flavor changes and differences were very easily presented.
