Much like the body
a boat has parts.
Much like the body
these parts cohabitate,
much like the body,
the spaces and stowage
ergonomically designed
to maintain stasis,
uphold water tightness,
to
hermetically seal
impermeable skins
between the us and them
the shallows and depths.
Much like the body
a boat is assailed.
Much like a body
the assault can
leave permanent irreparable
damage,
an elusive leak in the hull.
Where it doesn’t matter
how many times
you look for it
over and
over
and
you bring it out of the water
to examine
every inch
of flesh
of fiberglass
of teak
unique in design and aesthetics
to each manufacturer.
It is not found.
Much like the body
a boat can sink.
Much the body,
previously mentioned to be
resistant to certain
elements like
all types of
barometric pressure changes
and tropical depressions,
tempests,
rogue waves of phosphorescence,
dead calms,
and Sunday storms
with a prequivilty
to
steer you off course
altering the topographical features
of hand drawn navigational charts.
Dashed and dotted lines
indicating
where we’ve been
and where we’re heading.
