VCC Field Study Site #1

The 5th Avenue Dam Site was visited on Wednesday, March 5th at Noon. It was clear and warm with the lightest cloud accents. The view was towards the 4th Avenue bridge and over West Bay.

  • Cars going top right to bottom left and reverse.
  • No bird noises just engines.
  • Barnacles in multicolored striated stripes on rock and bridge legs.
  • Slow lapping water.
  • Ducks swimming and diving for food.
  • Public transit.
  • OK SOME bird noises.
  • Joggers behind us.
  • Bright blue water and sky.
  • Workers loudly talking over traffic behind us.
  • The blazing shine of car windows moving horizontally.
  • Lights over the bridge.
  • Murky water.
  • Salt water.
  • Little jellies.
  • Faint rot.
  • Mostly boring.
  • Will this even be heavily impacted?

I appreciate how thoughtful and matter-of-fact your observations are. “Ok SOME bird noises”– haha, definitely my favorite part, like perhaps you were blocking them out and then grudgingly acknowledging them (just like those metal feelers, mounted skyward on all of the awnings to prevent rogue perchers…) Curiousity: WILL this area be heavily affected? Where does this dam site fall along the map of the new water line?
    Thank you! Great post :)
