Future of Port Plaza Park

Given Port Plaza Park’s extremely close proximity to the shoreline, its future with global warming taken into account is grim.

As can be seen in this screenshot, even a one meter rise in the sea level would completely engulf the park, and leave the new shoreline as far away as the parking lot of the Olympia Farmer’s Market.

A four meter rise in the sea level would be even more devastating, leaving the park and all its surroundings deep underwater and nearly unrecognizable from the new shoreline, save for the slight possibility of the park’s observation tower peaking out slightly above the waves. If there is to be any hope of places like Port Plaza Park to remain for future generations to enjoy, we must do all we can to fight climate change as quickly as possible.
