Depiction of Little Hollywood
Little Hollywood, a neighborhood that existed during the great depression on the banks of the former Deschutes estuary where capitol lake, heritage park, and Columbia street are today. In order for the lake to have been created in 1951, the float houses and homes were destroyed and members forcible evicted by the city. Today, low income and homeless people of Olympia still live at this site, in the parks, sidewalks, and train tunnel. And policing of the area continues showing how social inequality persists today in the same place, in a different form. Ironically, right under the state’s capitol.
