Olympia Site- Field Study- Day 3

While I was out in my park today, I was thinking. If climate change continues on its current track, everything that is around me would be underwater. It was a strange feeling to speculate about the future and try to imagine everything as a new home for the fish of the sound. I sat and tried to imagine myself as a fish for a moment. What kind of things would I find? Where would I go? What kind of adventures would I go on? These questions raced though my fish brain as I saw myself swimming through and around the buildings that sit near the water.

It is ironic in a sense. We as humans rely on the water and the sound for many things, including; recreation, food, shipping, and many other things. But how do we show our thanks to the sound? We pollute it with oil and disregard how karma shows her spiteful nature. With the expected rise in the ocean, we will lose most of the area that we use. There will be millions in damage and its not like we can just go get those buildings back. They will stay where they are and become a new addition to the maze of obstacles that litter the sound’s floor.

While I was on my fish adventure, I wrote a poem. Not sure why really, I just felt like it.

New Places to explore
With this determination
I travel these warm waters

This is from the point of view of the fish as it wondered its new environment.
