The Chicken
As I first approached my site, I embarked on a lengthy unexpected journey with a chicken. It was sunny, with minimal clouds. In a fenced area to my right sat three chickens. I sat on the steps near Jefferson street, unfenced. I took down some notes, in an effort to determine my plan for the day. I looked over to the right and there were two more chickens than I had previously counted… Baffled, I looked back down to my notes to refocus. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye there was another chicken, but this time out of the fenced area… in the unfenced area with me. I recalled that the train comes by at approximately 5pm daily, it was approximately that time. I set down my notes, more concerned for the well being of this chicken and its relationship to the fairly regular motor traffic around me. I was acting as a barrier to the road, but what was to keep it safe from everything else? After some back and forth between knocking of the owner’s front door and staying put for the well being of this chicken, the chicken returned through stretched hole in the fence… with some persuasion.
But what is to keep it safe now? At 9:19pm on a monday night with nobody sitting on the stairs by Jefferson street.
