Climate change makes me think of extremes: melting ice and fire, drought and flood, which seems out of touch with the lack of action that I also associate with climate change. I think of time scales and how humans rarely seem to be in touch with the deep time scale of the Earth. We can hardly think in thousands of years without being paralyzed by the thought, or plan for the next one hundred. When I think back ten years, I remember hearing about climate change on the news and from my parents. The focus to me always seemed to be on the polar bears. Climate change was debated and argued over in the media, and from what I could tell, the only ones in danger were the polar bears. The name global warming clearly states that the effects are global, but I’m not sure if growing up I ever realized that the places I lived could actually be effected by climate change.
