1987 Admissions Video – A Letter to Home

Dylan Smuin stars as a prospective student composing a letter to his family about his experience visiting Evergreen, Olympia and the surrounding environs. Laura Porter guides him as the Evergreen mascot, the Geoduck. Smuin’s tour includes the library, media loan, student services, computer center, media production, Red Square, student activities, bicycle repair collective, Cooper Point Journal, KAOS the campus radio station, bookstore, samba dancing, sciences, visual and performing arts, the Organic Farm, athletic facilities, sports equipment rentals, and a variety of housing options. Along the way he encounters Walter Niemiec, Doug Scrima, Michael Huntsberger, Chuck Nisbet, Richard Alexander, Clyde Barlow, Peter Randlette and Pat Labine. Burke Long produced and edited the video. Admissions counselors Christine Kerlin and Mark Clemens developed the concept, with additional audio done by Scott Buckley and Chris Wythe.
