KIRKLAND, Wash. – Making the trip up to Kirkland, the Evergreen Geoducks were swept by the Northwest Eagles in a Cascade Conference volleyball match on Friday night at Northwest Pavilion.
Things didn’t get off to a good start for the Geoducks (0-4, 0-3 CCC) as the Eagles (3-5, 1-2 CCC) got off to a 12-1 lead in set one. Evergreen managed to get a few points but the deficit was too great as Evergreen fell 25-12.
The second set was much closer as the Geoducks found themselves tied at 8-8 with the Eagles. After Northwest took a brief lead, Evergreen tied it up again at 16-16. Northwest used 9-3 run to finish out the set as the Eagles took the 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, Northwest again exploded out of the gate, pulling ahead 14-1 and eventually 20-4 before the Geoducks were able to score a few points before falling 25-9 in the third set, giving the Eagles the straight set victory.
Evergreen struggled on the attack, hitting -.151 on the match with just nine kills on the night. Northwest was a bit stronger, hitting .253 on the night with 34 kills and 13 errors on 83 total attacks. The match went without a double-digit attacker as NU’s Sarah Stoker led all players with just seven kills.
The Geoducks return to Olympia on Sept. 16 when they play host to Northwest Christian in a match that will be contested at South Puget Sound Community College. Game time with the Beacons is set for 7pm.
