KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech volleyball team swept The Evergreen State College tonight in Cascade Conference volleyball action 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19).
After falling behind early in the opening set, a Krystie Vea ace gave OIT a lead they would not relinquish. Aurora Penoyar helped the Owls to their first 10 point advantage, 17-7, while Jennifer Saltenberger and Joey Parnell recorded two kills apiece down the stretch to give Tech a 25-12 opening set win.
After scoring the first point in set 2, a feisty TESC team moved up 7-5 on the host team. The teams would keep it close, including four ties before OIT went up 15-11. Again the Geoducks battled to tie the contest at 18-18, but not before an Allison Cook kill would spur s 7-1 run to give the Owls a 25-19 win in set 2.
After falling behind 2-0, Tech rallied for four-straight points to move out 4-2. The set 3 victory did not come easy, however, as an 11-5 lead for the home team quickly diminished to 11-10 after five-straight points for TESC. OIT went up 18-13, but again Evergreen would close to within a single point, 19-18, on a four point run, including three OIT hitting errors.
The Owls would regain their composure, recording the next four points on their way to taking the set and match by a 25-19 score.
Jennifer Saltenberger came away with a match-high 11 kills, followed by Joey Parnell with 10 to lead the Tech offense. Krystie Vea recorded 18 digs, while setters Sarah Svedin and Kayleigh Whelchel combined for 34 assists.
Jasmine Horton led the Geoducks with six kills, while Stephanie Peshlakai added five in the loss for TESC. Erin Mitchell recorded 13 assists and Chantal Petkus led Evergreen with nine digs.
Oregon Tech moved to 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference standings, while Evergreen State falls to 0-7 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.
The Owls host Northwest University on Saturday beginning at 7 PM. TESC travels to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon University.
