OLYMPIA, Wash. – Putting up 18 service aces on the afternoon, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers made easy work of the Evergreen Geoducks, 3-0, in a Cascade Conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
Eastern Oregon (14-7, 12-1 CCC) built a lead early in the first set and used a nearly flawless attack to run past the Geoducks (0-13, 0-12 CCC) , 25-7, in the first frame. EOU had 16 kills with no attack errors on 26 attempts for a clip of .615.
The second set was also all EOU as the Mounties scored the first 14 points before an Emily Sampson service error ended the run. Eastern Oregon didn’t have an attack error in the match until the 18-3 mark when Katie Showers mistimed an attack but EOU still cruised to the 25-4 set two win.
The Geoducks put up a little bit more of the might in the final set. After falling behind 12-1, Evergreen got back within seven at 15-8 but the Mounties didn’t let them get any closer as EOU earned the 25-13 set three win to clinch the match in straight sets.
Evergreen was led by six kills from Jasmine Horton (Seattle, Wash./Foster HS). Erin Mitchell (Santa Cruz, Calif./Mt. Madonna School) had eight assists on the afternoon while Stephanie Peshlakai-John (Kirtland, N.M./West Texas College) led the team with eight digs on the match.
Eastern Oregon was led by 11 kills from Alisha Crane. Emily Sampson put up 26 assists on the match while Kaitlyn Duncan led all players with 13 digs on the afternoon, as well as six service aces. EOU ended up hitting .463 on the match, putting down 41 kills with four errors on 80 total attacks.
The Geoducks hit the road next weekend, traveling to Concordia on Friday night. Eastern Oregon will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Northwest Nazarene for a non-conference tilt.
