Painting from the Subconscious
I have always been fascinated by the surrealist approach to art. Surrealists allow their subconscious minds to flow freely onto canvas, producing artwork that is directly from their imagination and completely uncensored. Because of my interest in this concept, I chose to create a series of paintings constructed by my subconscious thoughts. This gave me the freedom to paint without any constrictions, making the process of painting therapeutic. I feel as though I can better understand what is really on my mind by studying the content of each piece. I often discover connections between the images I create and what I am currently experiencing in my life.
When I am finished with a painting, I like to think of a story that can accompany it. I am also interested in the interpretations that others have when viewing my work, and how those differ from each other. The connections that people make between images on a subconscious level is something of great interest to me. I plan on furthering my knowledge on the relationship between images and the subconscious in my future studies.
