READINGS FOR WEDS LECTURE/DISCUSSION, WEEK 6: The SKIN OF THE PAGE, “LOOKING FOR ANYTHING TO FIX MY BODY”

Hey All,

Look out for another post (and an email too) about groups, Nur & Cole’s “Makeup Classes,” our Sat. get-together, and week 5 reminders regarding turning work that’s due in & attendance. MEANTIME: Here are the readings for this upcoming Weds, week 6:

1) RE-READ the poem excerpt, below, from Rob Halpern & Taylor Brady’s “Snow Sensitive Skin.”

2) CA Conrad, (Soma)tic Poetry Exercises plus statement HERE and HERE

3) Susan Stryker, “The Surgeon Haunts My Dreams,” HERE

WRITING PROMT REMINDER:

I gave everyone some extra time to DEVELOP the in-class writing work we did last week: 1) Respond to some line or lines in Puar & Rai; 2) your partner/neighbor responds to your response by way of and through (using) Brady & Halpern’s poem excerpt; 3) you respond to your neighbor by DIGRESSING or making an EXCURSION (not changing topics per se, but also not simply concluding or returning to what you wrote initially–take the thing in a new direction based on what your neighbor/partner wrote). 3) was written while listening to/playing part of Mazen Kerbaj’s “Starry Night,” what I called in the class “distractive writing.”
