KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech sophomore Karissa Dixon was a perfect seven-for-seven from the field, including five from behind the arc, as the Owls held off the Evergreen Geoducks, 61-45, in a Cascade Conference women’s basketball game on Friday night on Danny Miles Court in Klamath Falls, Ore.
After Oregon Tech (21-6, 10-5 CCC) soared out to a 12-0 lead, the Geoducks (5-20, 3-13 CCC) dug deep to get back within five points, 17-12, with about seven minutes left to play. After the Owls tried to hold Evergreen at bay, the black-glad Geoducks made it a one-possession game with just under four minutes left, 22-19, before another late run put Oregon Tech up by seven points at halftime, 27-20.
Just like in the first half, the Owls flew out of the gate in the second half as OIT put ten points on the board before the Geoducks finally broke into the second-half scoring column on a free throw by Sami Clark (Monroe, Wash./Edmonds CC) just over four minutes into the period. The Oregon Tech lead hit 20 on the next possession but the Geoducks continued to put the defensive pressure on the Owls, scoring the next five points.
Every time that Oregon Tech tried to push the lead back into the 20s, the Geoducks found a way to answer back up the double-digit differential was too much for Evergreen to overcome as the Owls never trailed en route to the 61-45 victory.
Evergreen was led by 12 points from freshman Sadee Jones (Belfair, Wash./North Mason HS). Junior Jessica Edge (Lake Stevens, Wash./Skagit Valley CC) added 10 points. The Geoducks took advantage of 18 offensive rebounds, putting up 16 second-chance points on the night.
Oregon Tech was led by 19 points from Dixon. Colleen Hunt added 12 points in the win while Kassi Conditt chipped in 10 points in 18 minutes played. Aundrea Albright led the Owls on the glass with 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
Despite the loss, the Geoducks remain a half-game behind Concordia for the eighth and final spot in the 2012 CCC Tournament after the Cavaliers fell at home to nationally-ranked Corban, 79-72.
The playoff push continues on Saturday night as the Geoducks travel to Ashland, Ore. to take on Southern Oregon. Tip with the Raiders is set for 5:30 pm.
