OLYMPIA, Wash. – Emma Neustel scored the game winner just 2:17 into overtime as the Northwest Eagles escaped with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Evergreen Geoducks in a Cascade Conference women’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon on Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
After a scoreless first half, the Geoducks (2-6-1, 0-3-0 CCC) were the first to make it on the scoreboard as Anastasia Daniels (Olympia, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) got a head on a cross from Brianna Speed (Seattle, Wash./Lake Washington HS) in the 76th minute to give Evergreen a 1-0 lead.
Northwest (7-2-2, 3-0-0 CCC) equalized it with just 73 seconds left to play as Annie-Bryn Stauffer gathered a deflection from an Evergreen defender and finished from five yards out. With the game early in overtime, the Eagles stayed perfect in CCC play when Neustel gathered a ball in front of the net and fired in the game-winner from about seven yards out to hand the Geoducks the heartbreaking defeat.
Evergreen keeper Lauren Davidson (Seattle, Wash./North Seattle CC) was solid in net, making nine saves in 92:17. Jordan Holmes was also strong for the Eagles, making two saves as Evergreen managed just three shots-on-goal during the match.
The Geoducks will be back in action on Saturday when they make the trek to Caldwell, Idaho for a matchup with College of Idaho.
