CALDWELL, Idaho – After a first half Evergreen goal, the College of Idaho Coyotes scored the equalizer with less than five minutes left in regulation and then put in the game winner just over a minute into overtime as the Geoducks fell, 2-1, in a Cascade Conference women’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell, Idaho.
The Geoducks (2-7-1, 0-4-0 CCC) got on the scoreboard in the 38th minute when Katie Hebein gathered a defensive bobble by the ‘Yotes (4-7-0, 2-2-0 CCC) and fired it in from about 25 yards out. Evergreen continued to hold strong defensively, despite being outshot 16-8 on the match, but College of Idaho managed the equalizer in the 86th minute when Chelsea Heffner snuck one past Evergreen keeper Lauren Davidson (Seattle, Wash./North Seattle CC) to force overtime.
The extra period didn’t last long as Taylor Culver fed in a pass to Alex Suggs, who fired the ball pas Davidson into the upper –left corner for the game-winning goal. Despite giving up the two goals, Davidson was solid in net, making seven saves. Aimee Pierson made just one save for C of I, allowing the goal by Hebein.
The Geoducks will look to bounce back on Monday afternoon when they travel to Eastern Oregon in a match set to begin at 2:00 pm in La Grande, Ore.
