SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – After over a month of non-conference play, the Evergreen Geoducks traveled down to Springfield, Ore. to open up Cascade Conference play at Northwest Christian but it was the Beacons who found their way into the win column, picking up a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Beacons (1-7-0, 1-0-0 CCC) got their first goal of not just the CCC season but all of 2011 in the 35th minute when Miranda Cruz fed in a well-timed pass and Katelyn Partridge beat Evergreen (2-4-1, 0-1-0 CCC) keeper Lauren Davidson (Seattle, Wash./North Seattle CC) for the 1-0 lead.
Cruz also had a foot in the Beacons’ second goal as her shot was deflected to the head of Brittany McKinley, who put the ball in the net for the 2-0 Northwest Christian lead and eventual win.
Evergreen held an 8-6 advantage on shots for the match, though the Beacons held the advantage in the second half, 5-4. Davidson finished with three saves for the Geoducks while Ali Foster made four saves to pick up the clean sheet for Northwest Christian.
The Geoducks will remain in Oregon until Monday, when they will take on Corban in Salem.
