Artist’s Statement
For my adaptation, I chose to do a dark twist on the classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. It is a story near and dear to my heart, and I always felt that the nonsensical whimsicality it captured had a deeper existential quality that I wanted to incorporate. I depicted this characteristic throughout my graphic novella, while also playing on the psychadelic attributes of the original story using vibrant colors both symbolically and compositionally. The story itself is nonsequitor, as it is a representation of a drug-induced dream sequence, and therefore focuses on aesthetics rather than linear plotline. I hope you enjoy reading my graphic novella as much as I did creating it.
