In my search for an article to give context to my research grounding Asian American Jazz within my home, I found an article entitled “Jazz: America’s Music.” This article dates jazz back to the early 1900’s, originating in New Orleans. Jazz grew from a multitude of music styles and cultures blending together into a new and American sound. During the 1910’s African Americans began to leave the south and travel around the country, and as a result jazz music began to reach new regions. Jazz hit it’s stride during the roaring 20’s with the advent of dance halls, and was a unifying force between white people and people  of color as the culture began to be shared among all types of people.

This article lays some ground work and room to expand into further context within jazz. I can definitely add more detail, but I feel this gives me a basic structure to build off of.
