so up until recently i didn’t realize that there was a word to describe an asian or asian american person as “asian on the outside and white on the inside” like banana

that’s so fucked up, why do people feel the need to label someone or demean them for their skin color? i don’t get it. same thing with calling someone “oreo” with the same idea but for african americans.

this week’s film and novel both showed these ideas of a multi cultural identity, specifically of being “hapa” and how that affects a person. while i had a lot of annotations in my copy of the book i don’t have it with me to write down any of my ideas but i just want to say that both kip fulbeck’s short film and novel showed me a lot of insight into what it is like for someone to be hapa and what that can mean depending on the person’s connotation.
