The Crossroads of Asian and American Culture

I have traveled to, lived in, and studied in Japan twice and have made close friends there. I have also traveled to South Korea twice, so I have been fortunate to be able to learn about Asian culture through these experiences and relationships. However, I have less experience with Asian-American culture. The limited exposure I have had to Asian-American culture has mostly consisted of attending a church with a large Filipino population growing up. Asian-Americans seem to be less represented in American media, pop-culture and professional sports compared to Caucasians and African-Americans. In taking this class, I hope to bridge the gap between my own experience as a middle-class white American, and the culture that I witnessed and grew to love while traveling and living in Asia.
