This week I did a few drafts from Albrecht Dürer’s Of the Just Shaping of Letters. Dürer was a German painter, engraver, printmaker, mathematician, and theorist. His work is extremely interesting. You can read his biography here.

This is an online copy of Of the Just Shaping of Letters. It is a list of proportions and geometric specifications for creating proper capital letters of the Roman alphabet.

I forgot to include this earlier so I will do so now. I wanted a quick understanding of architectural scale and found this video by Slow Home Studios. They seem to have several tutorials related to architecture and design.

This has been a week of documentaries. If you are interested in architecture and design, this is the eccentric art couple for you. The Eames. They both have this mad scientist quality that makes them so entertaining to watch and an interesting approach to design that inspires you. I watched Eames: The Architect and the Painter this week and it helped spark some creativity. It’s available to watch for free on PBS.org.

I just recently watched Eric Bricker’s documentary Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman. It focuses on the life and photography of Julius Shulman. Shulman was a predominate photographer during the Modernist architectural period in the United States and the film includes many examples of Modernist architecture. I recommend watching it if you get the chance. I found it to be a good source of inspiration for my work.
