Geoducks Run Well to Score at CCC Championships

GRESHAM, Ore. – A small squad made an impact for the Evergreen Geoducks as the green and white ran their way to points at the 2013 Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

The first scoring event for the Geoducks came in the 400m hurdles as Zephyr Forest (Fairfax, Calif./Sir Francis Drake HS) came close to the school record, taking sixth with a time of 56.96.

Evergreen also picked up points in the 4x400m relay as the team of Wes Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS), Forest, Steven Pressley (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) and Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) set the school record for the third time this season.  The Geoducks won their heat with a time of 3:26.01 to take sixth overall.

On the men’s side, Southern Oregon ended Concordia’s reign as champion with a convincing 72 points victory.  College of Idaho used a 65.5 point margin on the women’s side to take that team title as the Cascade Conference handed out the final hardware of 2012-13.

While the conference championship is officially in the rearview mirror, the Geoducks may still have a few meets left.  In addition to any local meets, sophomore Aaron Jones (San Bruno, Calif./Capuchino HS) has already qualified in the marathon at the 2013 NAIA National Championships and will head to Marion, Ind. On May 23-25.
