Gray, Johnson Named Red Lion CCC Athletes of the Week

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After spending the weekend putting up some outstanding performances, junior Brittany Gray (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge HS/Skagit Valley CC) and freshman Anthony Johnson (Seattle,Wash./Garfield HS) have been named Red Lion Cascade Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.

Gray earned women’s basketball honors after she averaged a double-double with 22.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg to lead the Geoducks to their first ever sweep in Portland. Also added a single block in each game and was 11-of-15 from the free throw stripe to help the Geoducks get the free points.

Johnson was named men’s field athlete of the week after he became first NAIA high jumper of the season to break the seven-foot mark, taking second at the UW Indoor Preview with a mark of 7-0.25 (2.14m). Nearly cleared 7-2.25 (2.19m) before clipping pole with his ankle. Shattered own school record by six inches and became the second automatic qualifier for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships as he can make his plans for Ohio in March.

Also being recognized was junior Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma CC), who earned honorable mention honors for Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning his heat of the 600m run at Saturday’s UW Indoor Preview.
