OLYMPIA, Wash. – Posting their second-largest margin of victory in a Cascade Conference game in school history, the Evergreen Geoducks earned a big win over the Northwest Christian Beacons, 74-44, in a Cascade Conference women’s basketball game on Friday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
The 30-point differential is second only to a 36-point win over Concordia on Feb. 6, 2004 when the Geoducks knocked out the Cavaliers, 87-51.
The Geoducks took the lead on a jumper by Brittany Gray (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge HS/Skagit Valley CC) just 48 seconds into the game and Evergreen wouldn’t trail the rest of the way. The lead hit double-digits with 9:28 left to go in the first half as Gray hit a three-pointer that put Evergreen up by a score of 19-9. The lead would hit 20 just over a minute to go before the break as Uriah Thomas (Chehalis, Wash./W.F. West HS) hit a basket in the paint to put the score at 37-17 heading into the second half.
The Beacons played a little bit better in the second half but it wasn’t near enough to hold off the Geoducks, who earned their third straight win to move just one game out of a tie for third place in the conference standings as they earned the 74-44 win.
Evergreen was led by 13 points from Sammi Clark (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS/Edmonds CC). Jessica Denmon (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS/Skagit Valley CC) added 10 points and 11 rebounds to earn the double-double while Thomas had a solid game off the bench with 10 points on the night.
Northwest Christian was led by 16 points and 10 rebounds from center Chandler Gabrio, the only Beacon in double-digit scoring. NCU turned the ball over 23 times, compared with just nine for the Geoducks.
The Geoducks will look for another win on Saturday night as they host Corban. Tip with the Warriors is set for 5:30 p.m. at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
