Evergreen Selects Malroy to Lead Men’s Basketball Program

OLYMPIA, Wash. – After a nationwide search, The Evergreen State College has selected Tim Malroy as the fifth head men’s basketball coach in school history.

“We were blessed with a very large number of applicants, and we had an outstanding finalist pool.  Tim emerged from that strong field as the best fit for Evergreen,” said Matt Newman, Director of Recreation and Athletics. “He’s a seasoned and successful coach and educator, and we look forward to him mentoring our student-athletes and building a competitive men’s basketball program.”

Malroy. a 1985 graduate of Olympia High School,  comes to Evergreen from Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash., where he has served as head men’s basketball coach since 2004-05.  Prior to GRCC, he was the head women’s coach at South Puget Sound Community College for three seasons.

“I am honored to have been chosen to lead the men’s basketball program at Evergreen,” said Malroy. “I intend to bring in athletes that want to compete and sacrifice for their team, students that want to learn and better their future, and young men who are community conscious and servant leaders. I am excited to come back home and begin a new chapter in my life and career. Dig Deep Geoducks!”

A 1989 graduate of Western Washington University, Malroy played for Brad Jackson from 1985-87 before earning his Bachelor of Arts in psychology.  He later earned his Master of Science in sports psychology in 2000 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in sport and performance psychology through Grand Canyon University.

He is expected to start at Evergreen in early June. The Geoducks went 4-21 in 2013-14, finishing in a tie for ninth place in the Cascade Conference with a record of 3-15.

“My sincerest thanks to Monica Heuer and the entire search committee, they put in a lot of hours and provided excellent feedback on all of the candidates,” added Newman.
