OLYMPIA, Wash. – Taking advantage of 21 Evergreen turnovers, the Puget Sound Loggers picked up a 73-69 win over the Geoducks in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Wednesday evening at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
The Geoducks (4-5) started out strong against the Loggers (6-2), who were playing their first game in 11 days. Just eight minutes into the game, Evergreen held a ten point lead at 19-9 but the Loggers slowly began to close the deficit. Puget Sound went on a 16-1 run that put the visitors up by six points with a minute left and UPS took a 32-24 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Geoducks dug deep and battled back, pulling even on a free throw by Sammi Clark (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS/Edmonds CC) with 16:31 left to play. The teams battled back-and-forth the rest of the way. With the score tied at 62 with 2:53 left to go, the Loggers took over, hitting their shots down the stretch to leave Olympia with the 73-69 win.
Evergreen was led by 19 points from Brittany Gray (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge HS/Skagit Valley CC). Clark added 17 points to go with 10 assists while Sadee Jones (Belfair, Wash./North Mason HS) added 15 points and nine rebounds to narrowly miss the double-double.
Puget Sound was led by 20 points from Amanda Forshay. Olivia Roberts came off the bench to score 14 as the Logger bench scored 31 points on the night. UPS shot 53.1% on the night, making 26-of-49 attempts.
The Geoducks will be back in action on Saturday night when they take on Central Washington in an exhibition contest. Tip with the Wildcats is set for 7 p.m. at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg, Wash.
