NAMPA, Idaho – Competing for the first time this academic year, the Evergreen Geoducks put together a strong performance, including two school records, at the Jackson’s Open on Friday at Jackson’s Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.
Junior Aaron Jones led the Geoduck harriers with a second place run in the mile, posting a time of 4:39.65. The Evergreen 4x400m relay team also had a strong showing, taking fifth with a time of 3:32.18 to beat the “B” squad from NCAA Division I Utah Valley.
In the field events, Evergreen was led by jumper Anthony Johnson, who took fourth in the high jump to set a new school record with a leap of 2.00m/6-6.75, just one centimeter shy of the NAIA provisional qualifying mark. Johnson also took second in the long jump with a mark of 6.54m/21-5.5, also a new school record.
Overall, the Geoducks had 19 entries to open the 2013-14 season and will look to turn some of those performances into national qualifiers when they resume competition on January 18 at the UW Indoor Preview at Demspey Indoor in Seattle.
