Mission statement:  To conserve, protect and restore the environment, with a particular emphasis on the Idaho Panhandle and the Coeur d’Alene basin.

On their website it says that the Kootenai Environmental Alliance (KEA), “is the oldest non-profit conservation organization in Idaho. Our conservation mission is unchanged since the organization’s founding in 1972. We are based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and work throughout North Idaho”.

KEA was founded by former Idaho State Senators Art Manley and Mary Lou Reed, as well as representatives from several local and regional sporting organizations and renowned environmental attorney Scott Reed.

Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission

“The Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission coordinates management policy and provides fisheries technical services for the Yakima, Warm Springs, Umatilla, and Nez Perce tribes. CRITFC’s mission is ‘to ensure a unified voice in the overall management of the fishery resources, and as managers, to protect reserved treaty rights through the exercise of the inherent sovereign powers of the tribes.'”

The Calapooia Watershed Council

According to their website, “The Calapooia Watershed Council (CWC) was created by residents of the watershed in 1999, and is a community organization that promotes voluntary actions to improve the health of the watershed.   The Council was originally formed due to initial concerns of agriculture regulations and the listing of threatened fish species, namely spring Chinook and winter steelhead.  The activities of the Council are guided by bylaws, articles of incorporation, policies, and its mission statement.”

Tribal Climate Change Project

The Tribal Climate Change Project is a collaborative project between the University of Oregon Environmental Studies Program and the USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station. The project focuses on understanding needs and opportunities for tribes in addressing climate change, examining the government-to-government relationship in a climate context and exploring the role of traditional knowledge in climate change studies, assessments and plans.

This project is part of the USDA Forest Service 2010 Coordinated Approach to Tribal Climate Change Research. Other Forest Service Research Stations engaged in this type of research include the  Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station and the Forest Service Northern Research Station.
