This last week, immediately upon arriving in Chiangmai, I began a five day silversmithing course. While some of the techniques and lessons I had already learned in my apprenticeship in Olympia and my work in the metal studio at Evergreen, I had previously focused mainly on bronze and copper as jewelry materials. I also had limited experience with bezel-setting, so this was a perfect program to refine and add to my skills!
Some of the skills I focused on in this course were:
Designing a pendent & two rings, drilling and sawing, polishing and surfacing, adding textures, ring sizing, equations for proper bezel sizing, bezel setting, soldering, and making wire by hand.
Here is a glimpse into my course handbook. Photos of my finished projects to follow, upon completion of the course.
