Learning Objective Activities What My Sponsor Will Evaluate?
What are the processes of legally certifying a garden into a public-access community space? The student will volunteer time with Fertile Grounds to gain an understanding of the process of turning a garden into a legal public-access community space and in addition will read case examples from Creating Sustainable Community Programs: Examples of Collaborative Public Administration by Mark Daniels.

The student will also the independent scholarly peer-reviewed articles: A Rights-Based Approach to Food Insecurity in the United States, Governing Networks in the Hollow State, and Governing the Hollow State. 

 

 

The owner of Fertile Grounds will write a paragraph summary of the experience working with the student.

The student will show an interdisciplinary understanding of The Taste Culture Reader: Experiencing Food and Drink and Neurogastronomy: How the Brain Creates Flavor and Why It Matters by relating concepts learned to class material in the format of one 800 word essay a week. The student will repeat the process for the second half of the program with An Indigenous People’s History of the U.S. and The Good Food Revolution : Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities.
