Tasting Lab Week 5

-Homemade hot chocolate and garden soup: earthy and comforting-

We were asked to think of plant consciousness while eating the garden veggie soup that spencer and Sjoukje prepared. The reading this week, The Lives of Animals, explored the idea of thinking oneself into the existence of another being. The meditation led by Sjoukje took us on a journey of a food plant life cycle. I think it is possible to feel the energy of the food we eat, whether it is in the form of plants or animals. The taste, smell and texture are all demonstrations of the plant’s essence or energy. The way we feel, mentally and physically after eating is the energy of the food being transferred to us.

Watching a portion of the documentary, Seed: The Untold Story, I was reminded of the amazing power of seeds – the fact that all of life starts from something very small, a seed or an egg. A complex genetic code is carried in the smallest of vessels – years and years of energy being passed, and altered and passed and so on. Passed and transferred and turned into something else. Never created nor destroyed.
