Documentaries

Birth As We Know It follows a badass Russian birth camp, showing their practices and philosophies. Of the many movies that we watched about birth, this was the most inspiring. The movie can be downloaded or ordered here: http://www.birthintobeing.com/bawki

Microbirth is another documentary that I recommend. It has a lot of information about how our micro biome is passed on through generations and by vaginal birth and breastfeeding, and welcomed by our immune system.

Seed: The Untold Story tells the story of a loss of agricultural diversity and highlights people working on saving genetic history and public health. This is the synopsis from the website “Few things on Earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds. Worshipped and treasured since the dawn of humankind. In the last century, 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared. SEED: The Untold Story follows passionate seed keepers protecting our 12,000 year-old food legacy. As biotech chemical companies control the majority of our seeds, farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers fight a David and Goliath battle to defend the future of our food. In a harrowing and heartening story, these heroes rekindle a lost connection to our most treasured resource and revive a culture connected to seeds. SEED features Vandana Shiva, Dr. Jane Goodall, Andrew Kimbrell, Winona Laduke and Raj Patel.”

Videos-

Pat Rasmussen is one of my field supervisors and this is one of her videos about the design of a past hugel hoop house. We are building one similar to this to grow both annual and perennial vegetables.
