Pre-impressions

I am savoring this period of time. I am conscious of the fact that Glasgow is, at present, limited to mental imagery. I have read enough about the city and “walked” around by virtue of Google Maps “street level” to gauge distances from my accommodations to city sites that are essential to my study of Margaret Macdonald and Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s contributions to the urban Art Nouveau movement. But this is all virtual, the actual remains to be “seen.” After I arrive and walk the streets that I know by name only, my consciousness of the city will change and cognitively I will never be able to go back to the stage that I am in at this moment. This, they say, is called “learning.”
