OLYMPIA, Wash. – Because of severe winter weather throughout the Pacific Northwest and unsafe driving conditions throughout Western Washington, the Cascade Collegiate Conference has decided to make adjustments to this weekend’s basketball schedule.
In a reversal of scheduled opponents, the Evergreen Geoducks will now play Corban in a previously-scheduled doubleheader on Saturday evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Geoducks will then play host to Northwest Christian on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. Evergreen was originally scheduled to play NCU on Friday.
On Thursday morning, Washington Governor Chris Gregoire declared a winter storm emergency. Authorities are reporting about 22,000 homes and businesses in Thurston County are without power due to the current ice storm. Much of the Olympia area received a foot of snow or more on Wednesday, which areas south seeing over 20 inches during the winter blast.
In addition to the changes at Evergreen, the adjusted schedule will also affect Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash. The NU Eagles will play Northwest Christian on Saturday and Corban on Sunday. The other five games in the Cascade Conference will remain as scheduled for the time being.
