OLYMPIA, Wash. – With just six players dressed and ready for action, the Evergreen Geoducks put up a strong effort but couldn’t hold off the deeper Northwest Christian Beacons, falling 86-70 in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Sunday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
After a lay-up by Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College) gave the Geoducks (1-18, 0-10 CCC) the initial lead, the Beacons (10-12, 3-7 CCC) took it back on a three-ball by Trevor Parker and never looked back. NCU pushed the lead to 11 with 14:25 to go in the opening period but the Geoducks buckled down and battled back into single digits. A jumper by Travis Pacos with 39 second left gave Northwest Christian the 43-32 halftime lead.
In the second half, Evergreen continued to battle as the differential hovered around 10 for most of the period. The Beacons finally wore down the short-handed Geoducks towards the end as NCU earned the 86-70 win.
Evergreen was led by 18 points off the bench from Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC). Lewis finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds for the double-double while Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC) added 13 points. Sophomore Mike DeRosier (Puyallup, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) added 11 as four of the six Evergreen players finished in double-digit scoring.
Northwest Christian was led by 22 points from Brian Hampton. Mitchell Wilson, Pacos and Tyler Fox all added 11 while Brody McGowan and Jordan Buhler each chalked up 10. 14 of 15 Beacons listed on the roster played at least a minute in the game.
Evergreen will get right back at it on Monday evening when they play host to Corban. Tip with the Warriors is set for 5pm at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
