SALEM, Ore. – An accurate offensive attack by Corban was too much for the Evergreen Geoducks to overcome as they fell to the host Warriors, 2-0, in a Cascade Conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Ore.
The Warriors (4-4-0, 2-2-0 CCC) struck first as Derik Chaney fed in a ball to Tyler Hagen, who guided the ball past Evergreen (1-5-1, 0-3-1 CCC) keeper Christian Pettit (Sprint Branch, Texas/UT-San Antonio) in the 15th minute for a 1-0 lead. Despite trailing after 45, the Geoducks held a 5-4 advantage in the shots in the first period and were awarded three corners in the half.
In the second half, Corban doubled the lead in the 70th minute as Devin Chaney gathered up the rebound following a shot by Josh Hamilton and fired the ball past reserve keeper Mitch Treend (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie) for the 2-0 lead. After managing just four shots in the first 45, the Warriors came out firing in the second half, uncleashing 10 shots in the final 45, including nine on net.
Evergreen returns to Olympia on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to Warner Pacific in the second game of a soccer doubleheader on Evergreen Pitch. The Geoducks and Knights are currently scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m.
