Biological Technician and Internship Positions Available on Grizzly Bear Research Projects in Montana

The USGS and University of Montana are leading two large, cooperative research efforts in northwest Montana. All positions are University of Montana employees.
Cabinet-Yaak Ecosystem (CYE): Goal is to develop a scientifically rigorous, precise estimate of the size of the grizzly bear population in the Cabinet-Yaak Ecosystem of northwestern Montana and northern Idaho. The project will conduct repeated visits to bear rubs and baited hair traps to collect hair samples for genotyping and mark-recapture analysis. Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE): Goal is to evaluate the ability of noninvasive genetic sampling to estimate the growth rate of this grizzly bear population in northwestern Montana. The project conducts repeated surveys of natural bear rubs to collect hair samples for genotyping and mark-recapture analysis.
