Announcing WPC’s 2012 Jennifer Dunn-Thomson Scholarship

In 2005 Washington Policy Center (WPC) honored Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn with our annual Champion of Freedom Award,

“For her contributions throughout her distinguished Congressional career advocating for her constituents and our entire state on the important policy issues facing our region. Honoring her strong leadership, support of free-market principles and being a friend to small businesses and taxpayers on the death tax repeal and other tax reforms.”

Now we are honored to present a $5,000 scholarship through the Jennifer Dunn-Thomson Fund for America’s Future to a female college student who embodies these values. The scholarship will be given to a college student who exemplifies Jennifer’s leadership, commitment to public service and personal values. The recipient of the scholarship may use the money to pay for tuition or an internship on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. WPC will help the recipient with an internship placement with a member of Congress in the fall of 2012.

WPC awarded the 2011 Jennifer Dunn-Thomson Scholarship to UW graduate Samantha Bowman, who is using the funds toward her studies at the London School of Economics. During our 2011 Annual Dinner last fall, we showed a special video of Samantha discussing what the scholarship and Jennifer’s legacy mean to her.

Requirements

Applicants must be female and enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student during the 2012-2013 academic year and hold an above-average GPA with good oral and written communication skills.

Please submit the following items: resume, college transcript, two letters of recommendation and a writing sample from a public policy course you have taken or something applicable. In addition, you must provide a brief, one-page essay to answer the following questions: How would you benefit from receiving this scholarship? How would it allow you to honor the legacy of Jennifer Dunn?Please indicate in the essay if you would like to use the grant toward tuition or for a Congressional internship.
