Summer 2012 – The Army Corps of Engineers is currently recruiting for a position that will support wildlife and natural resources management at Army Corps Lands in the Willamette Valley Region. This person

will assist with management of natural resources at the 13 reservoirs in the Willamette Valley Region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Major duties are related to monitoring and management of wildlife resources and habitat,including

Western Pond Turtle. Duties may also include assistance with prairie restoration, plant inventories,

regular watering of restoration outplantings, data entry and writing reports. The individual will coordinate

closely with the Army Corps natural resources managers and biological staff but after aninitial training

period will often work independently.

Required Qualifications:

Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground

Willingness to work independently in an outdoor setting

Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs

Must be comfortable riding in and working from a boat

Experience reading maps and attention to detail

Good written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude

Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word

Current Driver’s license and ability to pass a defensive driving test

Willingness to submit to a government back ground survey.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of Northwest natural resources, wildlife and plants.

Coursework in biology and strong interest in biology and conservation

Previous experience using GPS units and ArcView GIS

Duty location:

Will report daily to Army Corps office at Fern Ridge Lake. Incumbent must arrange their own

transportation to and from the office. Public transportation opportunities are limited. Field sites may

include any of the thirteen reservoirs that make up the Willamette Valley Project.

Terms of Employment:

One AmeriCorps member will serve a term of service (length dependant on commitment of hours),

starting by May 23rd 2012. Starting date, hours and times is negotiable. Time commitment is a minimum

of 450 hours over three to four months.

Program Benefits:

$3,200living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis, a $1,468 education award upon completion of the

450 hours of service and/or position requirements. The living allowance and education award are

taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own housing and food. Service eligibility is

contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
