The Masters Intern will assist with research to understand the passage distribution and survival and return rates of steelhead kelts tagged above and at Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River. Responsibilities include collecting, tagging, and releasing steelhead kelts in the Snake River tributaries upstream of Lower Granite Dam and into the Lower Granite juvenile fish facility; assisting with the deployment of arrays of cabled hydrophones on the upstream face of Lower Granite Dam in order to track acoustically tagged steelhead kelt movements and determine routes of passage; and estimating forebay residence time, tailrace egress time, and project passage time metrics, as well as survival rates of fish passing dams in the Snake and Columbia River basin.
