Snow Hydrology Student Internship Opportunity working in the lab of Prof. Anne Nolin (CEOAS, OSU campus)
We seek several students to assist with a snow/climate study over the fall/winter/spring term. The project is examining how climate change and forest cover affect the accumulation and melt rates of snow in the Oregon Cascades.
Student interns can receive college credit for participating in the snow surveys. We will train you in field techniques and you will learn about snow hydrology and mountain climatology.
Requirements:
Willingness to work long days in a snowy mountain environment
Demonstrated experience hiking in mountainous terrain
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Capacity to learn to drive a snowmobile
Capacity to learn snow survey field techniques
Willingness to commit to a minimum of 5 full days of work (more would be better!)
Willingness to learn basic principles of snow hydrology
You need to have appropriate warm/waterproof outdoor clothing and boots.
